Congratulations girls! All of our teams advanced today. This means that all of the teams are still in contention for the gold!
The 12-1s played at the Wide World of Sports today. They finished as seeded in their pool, second. The highlight of their day though was beating Kiva's top 12s team in their third match. You can see photos of the 12-1s playing today by clicking here. After finishing off Kiva in a tiring match, the team went back to their house for the night to enjoy the pool and relax.
The 15-2s had a great morning at the Convention Center! They finished first in their pool, keeping their seed, winning all of their matches with enthusiasm and intensity. You can see photos from their final match (versus MAVA) by clicking here. After once they finished playing the team was off to Cocoa Beach. On top of their great day at the gym, they had a great time in the beach (while Marlon slept in the car, in the air conditioning). Their ride home from the beach was a little interesting, as the team got lost. But, they did manage to make it home in time to go to T.G.I.Fridays for dinner. Overall, they had a great day!
The 15-3s also finished as seeded this morning at the Convention Center. While they went 1-2 for the day, they played with enormous energy and made it very entertaining to watch them. By coming in third in their pool, the 15-3s are now slated to play the 15-2s in their first match tomorrow - may the best team win! Click here to see photos of the 15-3s matches today.
The 15-4s also finished third in their pool at the Convention Center this morning. You can see photos from their matches by clicking here. They overtook the team seeded third with a solid win in their last match where won 25-9 and 25-15. Like I said, solid.
Allison Adams from the 15-5s received a wonderful birthday gift today as her team had a great morning at the Convention Center as well. They went 2-1 for the day, finishing second in their pool, moving up two from their fourth place seed. They started off strong beating the number two seed in two games. Then they continued to play hard against Tsunami in their next match, but couldn't quite pull it out. They ended up losing 10-15 in the third game. But that didn't get these girls down. They came back in their last match to win, clinching second place for themselves. Click here to see photos from the 15-5s day. After the gym, they also headed out for Cocoa Beach. They stopped at Ron Jon's and then found a local pizza shop that had a capacity of about 20. However, this pizza shop served delicious 26" pizzas - they only needed two to feed the entire team, two coaches and two chaps. Then they hit the beach. Overall, another great day!
This afternoon, the 13-1s played at the Wide World of Sports. These girls had a strong first two matches, finishing one of them with both games at 25-13! The last match was a tough fight, but they ended up losing it 10-15 in the third game. They wound up finishing second in their pool. The 14-1s played at the Convention Center this afternoon. In their first match, the team dominated, only allowing a combined total of 19 points to be scored against them. The second match was a little closer, but they still came out on top. Their third match, against A5, proved to be their biggest challenge. They dropped the first game, but then came out swinging strong the second game, only allowing A5 8 points! The third game was a nail-biter that turned it a full game. They couldn't quite pull it out with the match ending at 23-25. To see photos of the 14-1s from today (taken by Curt) click here. So, the 14-1s finished second in their pool, but as stated before, still advance.
The 14-2s had a great afternoon at the Convention Center! They swept their pool, finishing first, and not letting a single team score more the 19 points! Congrats girls! You can see photos of the 14-2s first match by clicking here.
