Northern Lights Junior Volleyball, Inc.

Northern Lights Juniors was established in 1993. It is was formed to provide an environment where, highly motivated and athletically talented, young athletes could get the training and competition needed to help them excel at the high school and collegiate level. Northern Lights has been very successful in fulfilling this goal. Over the years, the level of girl's volleyball in Minnesota has risen substantially, with participation now at record highs. More Minnesota players are going on to play collegiate volleyball than ever before. Northern Lights Juniors is very proud to provide such great opportunities to young women. Northern Lights is one of the strongest clubs in Minnesota and is recognized nationally as a top program. The club is incorporated as a non-profit corporation under section 501 (c)(3).

Goals

1) The goal of Northern Lights is to train and educate young athletes in the sport of volleyball.

2) We are dedicated to the development of teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and work ethic.

3) Through high level training and national competition we also strive to give all seniors an opportunity at obtaining college scholarships.

4) For players still in high school, our goal is to provide top level training which will allow each player to participate successfully on their varsity high school teams.

5) Our desire is to teach every athlete to be the best player they can be, in a positive, productive environment.

Club Structure

For the 2006-2007 volleyball season, Northern Lights had two 18's teams, four 17's teams, four 16's teams, four 15's teams, four 14's teams, three 13's team, two 12's team, and an 11's team. The 15's age division was ran as a large group. We selected 42 players to participate at this age level, had them practice together on a regular basis and would only split them up for competition. This allowed for consistent skills coaching and for players to move between the teams This was also done with the 14/13 group, and the 12/11 group.

All administration of the club is handled by five people collectively.

• Full time coach and Individual Lesson Instructor, Chad Becker
• Full time strength and conditioning (SAQ) coach

These people help relieve coaches from the normal paper work associated with running a club. Each age group has a head coach who is responsible for all teams and coaches in that age division. All teams participate in 1-3 National Qualifying Tournaments and a year end AAU or JO's National Tournament (with the exception of the12's).
Most teams practice 3 nights a week. Additional practices are held specifically for Setters and Middle blockers. All practices are held at Midwest Volleyball Warehouse, a facility used solely for the purpose of volleyball. This is important because the facility is always available to the club and now also offers a "state-of-the-art" 3 camera video system.

Other benefits of Northern Lights Juniors include a team room and video room on site at Midwest Volleyball Warehouse and the possibility of participating in fund raising opportunities for both players and parents. In the past we have had families raise 100% of their daughters cost.
